Springtide Team: Staff & Project Leads

Mark Coffin - Executive Director & Founder @ Springtide Collective

Mark_Edit.jpg

Mark is a marine biologist by training, an entrepreneur by necessity, and an educator by calling. He is a Cape Bretoner at heart, a Haligonian for the last ten years, and has recently left Halifax to make a home on Nova Scotia's south shore.

Mark's interest in politics and democracy stems from an earlier passion for environmental protection and social justice, and a belief that his energy can be best applied to addressing those issues by looking upstream to how decisions affecting those issues are made in the political system.

At Springtide, Mark curates educational programming and content development, co-hosts the Off Script podcast, moderates public events and periodically teaches public workshops on topics ranging from systems thinking to political communications.

Some of the services Mark provides through Springtide include:

- public speaking on a range of topics related to political leadership, civic participation, and democratic reform

- workshop and program development and delivery

- advisory services and support on topics related to our work at Springtide.

Louise is a long-time collaborator with Springtide. She brings a background in qualitative research to her role as content and research lead on the Off-Script project. Louise first became involved with Springtide as she believes that strong legislative institutions are important to democratic life in Nova Scotia (and beyond!)

Louise is currently a PhD student in the political science program at Carleton University. However she made Nova Scotia her home for several years and graduated with an MA in political science from Dalhousie in 2014.
